Supporting Sustainability with the Library of Things Collection

The Lynnfield Public Library continues to add to our collection of Library of Things items, all with the goal of increasing sustainability in our community. The Library of Things is a collection of non-traditional library items, such as board games, puzzles, Chromebooks, crafting supplies, exploration kits, technology and more!

We’ve recently added reusable tote bags, which patrons are welcome to use to bring their library books home, to go food shopping, or to bring anywhere else you might need an extra bag but don’t want to use plastic. Some of our other sustainability-specific items include a soil tester and home energy evaluation kits.

The Library of Things collection itself is centered on sustainability and was created in collaboration with the Lynnfield Recycling Committee. Many of the original puzzles and board games were donated by the Lynnfield community. All of the items in our Library of Things are chosen with the idea of “What might someone want to use, but not necessarily buy?” Instead of each person buying a new product on their own and using it once or twice, the Library provides the item, and we all share it, reducing our consumption and carbon footprint.

To browse our full Library of Things collection, you can look through our Browsing Binder at the Library, or head to our website at lynnfieldlibrary.org/collections/library-of-things.
