We are excited to move beyond the April Showers and dive into some May Fun. We will have our recurring programs of Classic Film Club, Coloring Club, Virtual Yoga and of course our Weekly Storytimes. In addition, we have our monthly programs Manga/Anime Hangout, Board Game Hangout, Teen Study Night, I’ve Been Meaning to do That Club, Crafty Club, BookLovers, and Last Tuesday Book Club. For those looking for Saturday programs, we have Saturday Fun! – Seed Pot Making + Planting on May 2 and Bookmark Workshop – Magnetic Bookmarks on May 30.

In addition to many of our recurring programs, we are looking forward to some more unique programs.

Come celebrate National Star Wars Day and make your own Baby Yoda Origami. May the 4th be with you! Ages 11+

Visible Mending Workshop – Tuesday, May 5 – Learn the basics of visible mending with Catherine Karp. Beginners welcome. Catherine will teach six or seven basic stitches, which can be used to mend almost any kind of textile. Bring items in need of repair with you, so you can get started. Beginners can make a sampler using the stitches and techniques being taught. All materials are supplied. Get a jump start on renewing and refreshing beloved textiles.

Starting on Thursday, May 7, we are starting a new weekly program – Afternoon Teen Hangout – which will occur Thursday afternoons from 2:15 – 4:00pm and is for Ages 11+. Come hangout with friends or get some homework done! Snacks and fun activities provided.

On Monday, May 11 we are looking forward to Eat the Rainbow with Windy Pham– Join author Windy Pham on a colorful adventure where kids get to learn, taste and touch different fruits and vegetables around the world. This fun, hands-on workshop includes an interactive storytime, crafts and food tasting. This program encourages healthy eating, cultural curiosity, and the joy of “eating the rainbow.” *This program is supported in part by a grant from the Lynnfield Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. *

Read to McGee the Dog – Wednesday, May 13 – Come meet McGee! McGee is a trained therapy dog that will be visiting the Lynnfield Library hoping to hear some great stories! Sign up for a 15-minute session and choose a book to read to McGee. McGee loves listening to beginning and reluctant readers in grades K-4. Space is limited to 4 children. Register to reserve a time on our website.

Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) presents a free Resident Resources and Solar Power Workshop on Wednesday, May 13 at the Lynnfield Public Library. If you’re curious about non-carbon or solar energy, looking to lower your bill, or want to learn about available rebates and incentives, this event is designed for you. What We’ll Cover: Rebates and incentives available for RMLD customers, Practical ways to lower your energy bill, An overview of non-carbon energy and programs.

Planning for Medicare – Countdown to 65 – Thursday, May 14 – Planning for Medicare-Countdown to 65 is a presentation tailored for individuals approaching Medicare eligibility. This session is ideal for individuals in your community who may still be working and looking to transition to Medicare. We will discuss things to consider each year during the Medicare Open Enrollment time frame of October -December. This is a presentation and discussion led by Heather Hurd, a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts representative.

Memories Flow Beneath: From Valley to Quabbin – Wednesday, May 20 – Join us for a special documentary viewing with the Director! We will be showing Memories Flow Beneath: From Valley to Quabbin, a film by Roger Hagopian in collaboration with author and historian, J.R.Greene. Local filmmaker Roger Hagopian will join us for the viewing and a discussion afterwards. This 68 minute film traces the displacement of people and the loss of a way of life in the Swift River Valley of western Massachusetts, when the Quabbin Reservoir flooded four towns in order to create water infrastructure for 52 Boston metropolitan communities. Several interviewees include former valley residents, historians, and authors, notably J.R. Greene, who has written numerous books on the subject.
