The Latest on the Lynnfield Library Renovation Project

As some Lynnfield residents may know – the Town of Lynnfield has engaged Tappé Architects to plan a renovation of the current Lynnfield Public Library building, which will address a failing building envelope, replace outdated mechanical systems, fix numerous code compliance issues. and complete the third and final capital project in the 2020 Lynnfield Strategic Plan.

The renovation will also enhance the current building by adding the following features:

  • Add study rooms and a Teen section
  • Add indoor Library programming space
  • Expand the Children’s Room
  • Add meeting space for public use
  • Make the building fully ADA Compliant
  • Add bathrooms to each floor (including one by the Children’s Room)
  • Fix numerous maintenance issues (electrical, leaky pipes, water damage, etc)

To guide the project, the Select Board has appointed a Library Renovation Committee (LRC) to study the renovation plans and review cost estimates, and to make a final recommendation to the Select Board.  The general plan is to obtain cost estimates for the Renovation, and propose a vote to fund this capital project at Fall Town Meeting.  If the vote passes at Town Meeting, a ballot vote for a debt exclusion will occur in January 2025.

The Library staff, Board of Trustees, and Library Renovation Committee will hold public forums and provide much more detailed information in September and October.  We have also set up a Lynnfield Library Renovation page at www.lynnfieldlibrary.org/renovation/ to provide up-to-date information on this capital project.  As information becomes available, we will post it to this page.

Thank you for your support of the Lynnfield Public Library!
