Love and Other Conspiracies by Mallory Marlowe – This book was a delightful mix of the X-Files and an Ali Hazelwood novel. Who wouldn’t want to fall in love while hunting for Bigfoot?

Gallant by V.E. Schwab – This gothic novel follows an orphaned girl who discovers her long-lost family, only to discover that there are very strange things happening at the manor house.
Bog Myrtle by Sid Sharp – This graphic novel was an excellent modern take on a folktale, labor practices, and just being a nice person.

Gilmore Girls: Where has this show been all my life?? I’m very late to the party but this show is amazing. Currently on Season 5 and I never want it to end.
The Favorites by Layne Fargo: Books with ice skating have become all the rage recently and this one makes it clear why. It was so captivating and moved at a really nice pace.
The Dark Half by Stephen King: An interesting premise and just as spooky as his other stuff!
The Boatman’s Daughter by Andy Davidson: This book mixes realism with dark fantasy and overall works well together. Some of the characters could’ve been fleshed out more but I still enjoyed reading it.
The Way of Kings (1st Book in The Stormlight Archive) by Brandon Sanderson: A high fantasy read of epic proportions. It’s slightly laborious (lots of names/kingdoms to keep straight) but well worth it. Anyone who is a fan of Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, or The Dark Tower series should add this series to your list

The Queens of Crime: A Novel by Marie Benedict – I listened to the audiobook version of this title narrated by Bessie Carter. Five female crime writers, frustrated by the disdain they deal with from male authors of the Detection Club, band together to investigate the unsolved murder of a nurse. The five authors are Dorothy Sayers, Agatha Christie, Margery Allingham, Ngaio Marsh and Baroness Emma Orzcy. The investigation brings up issues in their personal lives, as well, further cementing the relationship among the female ‘detectives.’

The Paris Express by Emma Donoghue: On October 22, 1895 a steam train sets out from the Normandy coast traveling towards the Montparnasse Station in Paris. The driver and stoker of the train are both under pressure to keep the train on schedule inspiring both to consider options to increase speed to arrive early. A female passenger boards in Normandy along with many others, though she has a different reason for being on the train as she carries a bomb with the intent to kill all aboard. The novel provides insight into the politics and chaos of the French class structure.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End by Kanehito Yamada – This manga series is both fun and emotional. Frieren is an immortal elf and, following the death of a beloved friend, decides to learn more about humans. She also loves collecting silly spells, and it’s delightful.
Anora – This year’s Best Picture Oscar winner absolutely deserved all its accolades. Anora deftly draws you into the world of sex workers and gives them an often silenced voice through its title character who becomes entangled in the life of an immature client.
Mulholland Drive – I recently saw this film at a local theater and found it to be one of my most stressful recent movie-going experiences, and I absolutely loved every second of it. The late David Lynch’s masterpiece is a fever dream that will have you up all night trying to extrapolate meaning from its numerous surreal scenes, characters, and plotlines.
