Lynnfield Public Library, Letter from the Director

Letter from the Director

Updates on the Library Building Project

I have some sad news to relay. Unfortunately, the Finance Committee voted on Friday, March 1 not to allow the new library project on the Special Town Meeting warrant. This means that we will have to reject the $9 million grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and it will be redistributed to other towns who have applied for the grant. The Special Town Meeting still has to be held on March 18, but it will be ruled that the warrant is not legal and the meeting is, therefore, over.

I know this is all very confusing, so please feel free to reach out with any questions by emailing aporter@noblenet.org or calling 781-334-5411. Thank you all for your support for this project. The staff and I are, of course, so disappointed, largely because the new building would have provided us with so many new opportunities to better serve the Lynnfield community. We are hopeful that the potential renovation plans can still provide improvement to what we are able to offer.

Additionally, thank you all for such lovely messages during Love Your Library Month! The staff and I feel so loved seeing all of the kind notes. We have a lot of great programs coming up, including our first “Meet the Artist” open house with the Lynnfield Art Guild, Bill Sano’s return in April, and, of course, make sure to save the date for Art in Bloom on April 8! We will also be at the Lynnfield For Love and Lynnfield Cultural Council’s Multicultural Celebration on April 6. Stop by and say hello!

Sincerely,

Abigail Porter, Lynnfield Library Director
