Library Card Registration

Library cards are free and available regardless of where you live in Massachusetts.  To apply for a card, bring valid identification (driver’s license, passport, etc.) and proof of current mailing address (checkbook, utility bill, etc.) to the Circulation Desk of the Library.

If you have a library card issued by any NOBLE library (click here for list of libraries in the NOBLE consortium), you may use that card at the Lynnfield Library without registering for another card.  If you have a library card from another library consortium, we can link your new Lynnfield/NOBLE account to the barcode for your other library so that you do not have to carry two cards around.

A parent or guardian must be present to show identity and sign for children under the age of 13 applying for a Library card. If parents allow their children to acquire their own Library card, they must be aware that the child will have unrestricted access to all materials provided by the Library.  Additionally, parents will not have access to their child’s account unless they specify during the registration process that they would like access to the account (with the child present).

Computer Use

Library patrons have access to nine high speed Internet PC computers in the Reading Room. In addition to Internet access, these computers provide links to a variety of databases, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.  Each of the nine Internet-accessible computers in the Reading Room is connected to both a black & white and color printer.  Black and white copies are $.15 each and color copies are $.25 each.  The Internet computers may be used for thirty minutes with the exception of the “quick use” computer which may be used for fifteen minutes.   The Library also provides five catalog computers – three in the Reading Room, two in the Children’s Room – to look up materials in the Lynnfield and NOBLE collections.

Please see our Internet Access Policy for more information.

Scanner Use

The Library has a scanner connected to one of the public access computers.  There is no extra fee to use the scanner, but normal print charges do apply. (There is a charge of $.15 cents for black and white prints, $.25 cents for color prints.)  Items scanned on to the computer can be printed, emailed, or saved onto a flash drive.

Home Delivery Service

If you or someone you know is home bound and unable to visit the Library in person, please let us know. Whether you are permanently home bound or recovering from a temporary illness, the Library has some wonderful volunteers who can deliver books to your home. Please contact us at 781.334.5411 for more information.

Interlibrary Loan

Quite often, patrons are able to walk right into the Library and immediately take out the book or audiovisual material they need. What happens if we don’t own the item, or it is out? At that point, the Reference Department can request items from the other 28 members of the NOBLE consortium for delivery to the Library in three to four days. If no other library in NOBLE owns the requested item, we look elsewhere in Massachusetts, and if need be, across the country! We have received items from as far away as Alaska, Louisiana, and California! So, if we don’t have the item you want, please ask! (Just remember, it will take a week or more to get items from outside the NOBLE network.)

Microfilm/Microfiche Reader/Printer

The Library has one microfilm/microfiche reader and printer located in the Reading Room on the Main Floor available for use with our older issues of newspapers and Genealogical microfilm. There is another reader/printer available in the Genealogy Room. Copies are $.15 each. Ask one of the Reference Librarians for further assistance.

Photocopying & Printing

For your convenience, a photocopier is located in the Reading Room on the main floor of the Library. Copies can be made on either standard letter (8 1/2″ X 11″) or legal (8 1/2″ X 14″) size paper and cost $.15 each. Double-sided and ledger (11” X 17”) size paper cost $.25 each. The photocopier does not produce color copies.

Each of the eight public Internet-accessible computers located in the Reading Room is connected to a black and white laser printer and a color printer. Black and white copies are $.15 each and color copies are $.25 each.

Wireless Access

Wireless internet service is available at the Library. Patrons with wireless-enabled devices can connect to the internet for as long as they like, without waiting for a free PC. Patrons who use the Library’s wireless network must login as a guest and abide by the Library’s Acceptable Use Policy. Patrons are responsible for knowing how to configure their own wireless devices.

Please see our Internet Access Policy for more information.

Circulating Reference Collection

Many of the items in our Reference Collection may be taken out of the Library for a 7 day loan period. Look for the “7 Day Loan” sticker above the “Reference” tag on the spine of the books in our Reference area.  A small number of our Reference items are available for use only within the Library, and these items only have the “Reference” sticker on the spine.  Please contact the Reference Services department if you have any questions about our circulating Reference materials.
