Work on our Planning grant is well under way: by April 2016, we must complete a library building program, create a Library Building Committee, and select and hire an Owner’s Project Manager as well as an architect to develop a schematic building design based on the projected library needs of our community for the next twenty years, and beyond!
Library Building Consultant Mary E. Braney was hired in September, and she is tasked with completing our Library Building Program. (A building program is an in-depth written study of the services, collections and programs provided by the Library now and evaluated in terms of the projected future needs of our community.) Part of this narrative will include a needs assessment: what does our community—as represented by interested residents, library staff, trustees, parents, members of the Library Space Planning Committee and Friends of the Library, the Selectmen, Finance Committee, Planning Board and Conservation Commission—need in a 21st century public library?
Mary is gathering suggestions, ideas and data and will be organizing two public forums (one during the day and one in the evening) in early 2015 so that all interested residents will have an opportunity to share opinions on how to enhance the potential of our Library as a vibrant cultural and social gathering place in our community. Presently, Mary has met with the Selectmen, Library Trustees, Friends of the Library, Executive Board as well as Library staff, members of the Space Planning Committee, the Planning Board and Conservation Commission. Every taxpaying resident of Lynnfield will receive a short survey in his or her 3rd quarter tax bill that we encourage you to complete.
Surveys may also be completed online (link no longer active).
Please return your printed survey to the Library or Town Clerk’s office, or submit it online by January 3, 2015.
