We’ll Miss You, Pam!
by Lauren Fox
Every child who has been in the Lynnfield Public Library has probably interacted with Ms. Pam, whether it’s been listening to a story time, asking for a book recommendation, or making a craft. She’s a key part of our children’s room! And she’s continued to put together crafts and create surprise book bags while the building has been closed.
Well, Ms. Pam has an announcement! She will be retiring at the end of January and we know that all of those kids will miss her a ton. All of us at the library feel the same way, but we’re excited for her, too! One of Pam’s favorite parts of working at the library was reading to the kids; she loves watching them develop the joy of singing and listening to stories. She also enjoyed observing the friendships that evolved between kids who attended story times. She hopes to come back to do a story time once we are able to have in-person story times again, so don’t worry, you’ll have a chance to come say goodbye to her then. And we have the feeling we’ll still see her at the library occasionally.
If any kids would like to color Ms. Pam a picture or write a card, we welcome you to drop them off during our Front Door Service hours this week. You can also mail them to the library at 18 Summer Street, Lynnfield, MA 09140. If your cards or drawings arrive after Pam has retired, we will make sure they get to her.
On a personal note, I’ve been very lucky to spend the last year and a half working closely with Pam. She welcomed me from my first day and it’s clear that she’s an essential part of the children’s room and of the Lynnfield Library team. If you’ve picked up a children’s craft kit on a Saturday morning, it was probably made by Pam. She’s also been putting together many of the book bags for kids who want a surprise selection of picture books or chapter books, and she knows our collection so well that she can pick out books for just about any theme. I’ll miss having her as part of the youth services team and also congratulate her on her retirement.
