During National Alzheimer’s Month, we would like to take the opportunity to highlight our collection of Memory Kits for the use of caregivers and family members of patrons experiencing dementia and memory issues. The kits are comprised of DVDs and flash cards that use reminiscence therapy to promote sharing memories and remembering ‘favorite things.’ Reminiscence therapy is an activity that uses all the senses to help individuals with dementia remember events, people and places from their past. Through the familiar and comforting topics covered in these kits – the seasons, pets, patriotic events, the outdoors – patrons with memory issues will be prompted to share memories from the past and engage in conversations and storytelling. The Memory Kits can be checked out for three weeks with up to two renewals. We hope these new resources will prove of value to those patrons in our community experiencing memory issues. Please contact the Reference Department at 781-334-5411 with questions or to reserve a kit.
